With a pressure-based air-flow meter, which registers the mass flow of fresh air drawn in by the engine, the pulsations and return flows caused by opening and closing the inlet and outlet valves are taken into account. For this reason, the pressure-based air-flow meter is installed close to the engine, between the charge air cooler and exhaust-gas recirculation valve. Installation close to the engine is beneficial for commercial vehicle and off-highway applications, as it reduces the work of the sensors.
